With the development of economy and growth of population, the position of the transportation in people's life is improved increasingly. However, the intensity of traffic congestion aggravates, and the traffic accidents are increased severely. Consequently, economic development of the society and the people's life security are influenced seriously. Depending on advanced communication technology, information technology and electronic technology, the traffic congestion problem can be well solved.Thus it is very necessary to establish an intelligent transportation system based on GPS, GPRS and GIS.The development process of an intelligent transportation system is introduced in this thesis. The architecture of system combines B/S structure and C/S structure. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is chosen as the database,.NET is adopted as the development platform. Vehicle information positioning is achieved based on GPS, therefore the vehicle can be traced real-timely, and instant information collection is guaranteed. GPRS is used as the communication mode, and MapX is selected as GIS platform. And on Windows operating system the system is implemented. The functions of the system conclude vehicle satellite positioning, intelligent scheduling management, remote warning, voice prompt, vehicle information management and vehicle operation log management. With the help of this system, the traffic congestion can be relieved, the traffic capacity can be improved, and the traffic security can be strengthened to a great extent.In this thesis, the development background, social demand and significance of the intelligent transportation system are mentioned firstly. The design and implementation of system are discussed with emphasis. In the system design part, embarking from system composition, function analysis, design objective and implementation thought, the overall design scheme of the system is proposed, and the function design and database design are described in detail. In the system implementation part, the implementation of vehicle monitoring, vehicle warning, GPRS communication, electronic map and security information management are introduced with emphasis. At last, detailed testing is done on the main modules of system, the environment and method of testing are given, and a detailed description is listed on the contents and results of testing.
