SDH, as a new generation transmission system with automatic route selection ability, upper and lower circuit, convenience, maintenance, strong control and management features, easy to transfer a higher rate of business, etc., can be well adapted to the needs of the rapid development of communication networks. SDH has been developed well. However, due to various equipment manufacturers and carrries out a uniform standard with a small difference in SDH networking equipment, an important issue was brought out:inter-networking problems. The author working in front-line of transmission network, the article begins with the concept of SDH in the network usage, and the characteristics of different devices, business exchange, as well as network management inter-networking study of SDH equipment, describs the difference, as well as inter-networking problems. MSTP equipment, as an upgraded version of SDH transmission equipment, has been widely put into use, due to the direct access of IP signals, such equipment inter-networking problems are becoming increasingly significant. China Telecom and China Netcom, have taken a series of tests for such equipment, and the interconnection issues were discussed.DWDM technology takes advantage of single-mode fiber bandwidth and low loss characteristics, uses multiple wavelengths as the carrier, and allows different carrier channels in optical fiber transmission. DWDM is not only greatly enhance the communication capacity of network systems and it has a simple and reliable expansion, and many other advantages, in particular, it can be more direct access to a variety of business applications, which makes its prospects extremely bright. As DWDM network uses the same manufacturers'equipment, the optical fiber can be directly associated, only need to pay attention optical power, return loss and dispersion and other information without the need for special settings on the device. In recent years, the IP data services develop rapidly, the development of IPTV and other video services brings out new demand of DWDM technology, the introduction of new equipment started to appear:OTN equipment. OTN series of standards have not yet defined a standard Ethernet data services such as packaging format, the application process in the various manufacturers have different solutions, the interoperability problems appears, the article made a brief analysis on such issue.
