With the development of the optical fiber communications technology in high-speed, there are many merits emerging in optical fiber communications network, such as the wide band, low loses, the strong anti-jamming ability and so on. And in recent years, the costs of setting up optical fiber communications network have gradually reduced, so many enterprises, have already set up or are setting up the optical communications network themselves. But the different enterprises have their scales and characters, they need different scopes of optical fiber communication network or different mode of the network setting up and the preliminary optical communication network has been already set up. Now the SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy system was the main way of the optical network setting up in many enterprises already and it had the perfect recovery system and the ability of supporting the TDM service. Therefore, It is in line with the principle that it must protects the existing investment and adapts the new technology development in this article. In addition, the demands of different scale enterprise and the optical network setting up and engineering design with the MSTP (Multi-Service Transport Platform) based on SDH are presented.In this article, first, the characteristic of several kind of optical communication network of enterprises setting up at present, especially the characteristic of optical communication network of large enterprises, are described. And, it summarizes and analyzes the demand of optical network of enterprises. Second, it expound the basic principle of SDH, the background, concept, development and realization principle of each function module of MSTP.This article elaborated the essential technology that the GFP (Generic Framing Procedure), the LAPS (Link Access procedure), the MPLS (Multi-protocol Label Switching), the RPR (Resilient Packet Ring) and so on was applied in the new generation of MSTP. On the other hand, with the development of WDM (Wave length Division Multiplexing) technology and the cost reduce; it may be applied in Metropolitan Area Network and Enterprise Network step by step. Therefore, the principium and the essential technology of WDM are also described in this article.Based on thorough studies of the MSTP, it analyzed and discussed several kinds of projects on setting up optical enterprise network by using MSTP technology based on SDH. And, it analyzed the amalgamation of MSTP system and WDM network. Finally, it treated the measuring technology of MSTP equipments.
