In recent years, in China's large and medium cities, the phenomenon of traffic jams has become an issue of common concern to the community, causing a series of serious consequences such as increase in travel costs, intensification of energy waste, deterioration of environmental pollution etc, and has formed tremendous barriers for national economic development and improvement of people's quality of life. In Europe and the United States and other developed countries, there is no lack of advanced Intelligent Transportation System, but the imported system can not adapt to China's situation of mixed traffic flow conditions very well, and usually can not achieve the efficiency of the design itself so that it does not satisfy the demand for domestic traffic management. Research and development of China's own intelligent traffic control system is one of the most effective ways to improve road transport efficiency and solve or alleviate the current traffic congestion; traffic information collection system is an important subsystem of the system.Against the performance and power consumption disadvantages of traditional MCU-based information collection system, an embedded SOPC design scheme for a traffic information collection system based on field programmable gate array chip is proposed. In the hardware design, the system uses FPGA as the main chip, combined with SOPC technology, embeds Nios II soft-core processor, and gives full play to FPGA parallel high-speed data processing and I / O-rich advantages; in the software design, it is ported uClinux operating system and sqlite embedded database, loading the jffs2 file system, using multi-threading application development, and has also improved and innovated the algorithm processes. As a data acquisition front-end of a new generation of traffic signal intelligent control machine, the system is real-time, efficient, robust and stable, and has succeeded in the pilot run in Beijing; it will be a board application prospects and popularization. The system still is not particularly ideal in real-time nature, although comparing with traditional design its real-time performance has been greatly improved, the uClinux kernel, after all, is not a strong real-time, there is a solution to transform it to be a hard real-time or soft real-time operating system.
