Design And Implementation Of A Snmp-based Cable Modem Network Monitor And Management System

With the rapid development of CATV network technologies, cable modem networks have been one of the most popular broadband access networks. But as the population of broadband users grows, problems in network management are exposed, and have constituted difficulties in further expanding the business. Given no efficient monitor management system, a maintenance team will not be able to detect and solve network-running problems in time. This will in turn lower customer's satisfaction. In order to ensure the normal development of broadband services and reduce customer complaints, it is necessary to build an automatic management systems for performance monitoring of a cable modem network.In this paper, we use Visual C + + and SNMP + + to develop a SNMP-based cable modem network monitor and management system. The built system is capable of monitoring in real-time the operating states and key indicators of the underlying CMTS and cable modems. As a result, it helps the network managers control a cable modem network efficiently.
