Design And Implement Of Network Management System On Epon

EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) units advantages of Ethernet and PON technology, and has many advantages such as sufficient bandwidth, simple topology and low cost, so it provides the best solution of the restriction of Access Network. So, a steady, functional and efficient network management system is needed for the safe operation of an EPON system.Firstly, it has been done to introduce the conception and characteristic of EPON system, analyze and compare general network management modules and finally choose the SNMP module to design and implement the network management system.Then, further study of the SNMP protocol and OAM(Operation, Adnimistration and Maintenance), comparison of different versons of SNMP protocols and their PDUs have been done. In the same time, this paper made the analysis of the theory of OAM and its PDUs, indicated that OAM services can be extended by extending OAM PDUs.Next, a solution of a network management system has been provided based on the foregoing study。Firstly, it has been done to explain the realization of two kinds of communication channels which are implemented based on extended OAM PDUs. Then, the design and realization of the SNMP protocol has been described in detail with the definitions of private MIB and the process of SNMP PDUs as emphaseses. At last, the paper analyzed the theory and the solution for the distributed SNMP agents.Finaly, the paper shows the result of validation for the system functions and that of simple analysis about performance.
