With the development of the era of knowledge economy and the penetration of the concept of lifelong education, increasing emphasis has been laid on the exploration of learning-oriented society in many countries. As a part of the lifelong education system, the secondary vocational education has an ever more significant impact on social advancement and professionals’ cultivation. However, the secondary vocational education has a relatively wide disparity in the distribution of resources and public attention in comparison to the undergraduate one. Consequently, there remains much space to improve in curricular teaching and arrangement.In an effort to improve the teaching quality of professional education of Image Design in secondary vocational and technical schools, and to cultivate Image Design professionals adapting to social needs, this thesis refers to the theories of Image Design curricular arrangement in both China and other countries, cites Chengdu Modern Vocational and Technical School, and takes Image Design as the research object. By means of studying literature, conducting surveys and so forth, the thesis realizes the problems lying in professional curricular arrangements and analyses the causes of them. Meanwhile, aimed at meeting social requirements for Image Design professionals, this thesis comes up with ideas of achieving the target of adjusting to social needs to promote students’ all-round development, laying the foundation for the development of students’ vocational competence, and placing emphasis on the significant effects of potential curriculum and the idea for improving and perfecting the curriculum arrangement of Image Design that professional properties facilitate professional development.By conducting research, a curricular arrangement scheme, based on the development of professional competence and students’ personality, and the hierarchical and progressive internship and training of professional competence, has been defined. The scheme is expected to provide ideas for the development of secondary vocational education and curricular arrangement, thereby advancing the teaching quality of the vocational and technical education and cultivating more vocational and technical professionals who are highly qualified and at a senior level for our society.
