Suburbanization Gis-based Analysis

Suburbanization is the current stage of urban development, Suburbanization research is also a focus of urban geography research. But there are still some controversy understandings towards Suburbanization. The research on suburbanization now is most on the concept and theoretical exploration,as well as suburbanization of the population and population density; the spatial analysis of suburbanization is still rare,especially the GIS based urban spatial analysis.In this paper, we use 1979,1988,2000 three-phase data of urban land use of Shanghai,selected industrial and residential data layers to analysis the spatial characteristics of Shanghai suburbanization. We first stack industrial and residential land use of different time in ArcGIS,to reflect changes of spatial distribution. Then use concentric analysis sector analysis to study the distribution of industrial and residential land of different times,so as to understand the regularity of industrial and residential land use layout changes of different times. Finally,we use the ArcGIS grid analysis to calculate the expansion strength of industrial and residential land;to separate the expanding of industrial and residential land use into six grades:rapid expansion,fast expansion,medium-speed expansion,slow expansion,none expansion,reverse expansion,so we may make comparative analysis of the characteristics of industrial and residential land use expansion.The research indicate that:①Analysis to the distance distribution of industrial land use shows that:the distribution of industrial land use have no significant changes in 1979～1988 period, but increased substantially in number and size in the 1988～2000 period, this means that the industrial suburbanization began to clear out.②Analysis to the azimuth distribution of industrial land use shows that:the industrial land use mainly expend along the NE-SW oriented in 1979～1988 period ,but in 1988～2000 period, expansion direction tune into north-south oriented ,and the scale of expansion increased greatly.③The suburban city industrial park became the main goal of industrial suburbanization, industry land focus on industrial park is a important characteristics of Shanghai's industrial suburbanization.④Analysis to the distance distribution of residential land use shows that:he distribution of residential land use have no significant changes in 1979～1988 period, but increased substantially in number and size in the 1988～2000 period, this means that the residential suburbanization began to clear out.⑤Analysis to the azimuth distribution of industrial land use shows that:the major expansion direction of residential land use in 1979～1988 period is northeast;but in 1988～2000 period the major expansion direction tune into southwest, and the scale of expansion increased greatly.⑥Residential land use focus on the mega emerging suburban residential area, this is a important characteristics of Shanghai's residential suburbanization.
