With economic globalization and further deepening and consummation on China's market economy, the competitions within and among industries are getting more and more drastic. Simultaneously, modern enterprises also pay more attention to their strategic development for Long and Medium Term than before. Under those circumstances, they may make all kinds of strategic research for themselves, or ask for some helps from exterior consulting organs, or refer to the strategic research for them from consulting organs when they make strategic planning for themselves. As a kind of industry, consulting enterprises in the industry are in the state of stinging competition as others. Though most consulting companies also have their own development strategies, some are still devoid of specific development strategies for long and medium term when they "brain storm" for others.A consulting company is a WFOE (wholly foreign-owned enterprise) from Singapore, and was registered and started to operate in May of 2004 in Shanghai, China. The company's businesses cover media advertisements by the website, books and economic documentary they make, compilation and sale of China business guides and all kinds of industrial reports made in English, canvassing and providing managerial consulting services; and the customers mainly come from Shanghai, some from China's other regions, even overseas. Over the recent two years, the company's operation is still not satisfying; especially, its turnover can always not soar, though the demands for information and consulting services continuously increase with the ceaseless rise of Chinese economy.Since the entry barriers to the industry are comparatively lower, with the high attraction springing from the higher profit rate in the industry, new enterprises continuously appear and the competition is getting increasingly stinging. With the increasingly competition, the rivals are specializing their businesses, or strengthen their power by all kinds of ways to build up their competitiveness. A consulting company is facing to very high competitive pressure; and it would be very possible for A consulting company to be washed out if it had not a specific development strategy for long and medium term so that it could take indispensable measures. The dissertation firstly points out the company's operation situation and the unsatisfactory reasons. Since lack of the enterprise's development strategy for long and medium term, that is, the so-called "Let's play it by ear", the company has the unsatisfactory operation and management situation. The extrinsic phenomena direct reflected involves in the lack of core business, weak marketing capability, high employee turnover rate and unsatisfactory operation performance.Based on the keystone of strategic management, the dissertation analyzes industrial development, market, competitive structure and prospect in consulting industry in China, and objectively appraises the strength and weakness of A consulting company; by analyzing the exterior factors as political environment, economic, cultural and technological environment, the opportunities and threats are deducted, which the company faces to; then the development strategies of the company are planned by SWOT and Grand Strategic Matrix analysis.According to the company's current situation of operation and management and the interior and exterior environmental factors the company faces to, the dissertation sets down the strategic goals and objectives, and strategic implementation and executive measures; A consulting company should adjust its functional teams and strengthen its management in marketing, HR and establishment of enterprise's culture so that it could ensure its implementation of development strategies.
