Management consulting plays an important role in the enhancement and improvement of enterprises' management, which has been recognized worldwide. In 70s, 70% of all-industries in US, 50% of all-industries in Japan, have improved their management performance and gained great achievement with the help of consultants. In China, management consulting started from 1980s. Comparing with developed countries, though Chinese consulting industry has been developing, there still exists great gap and is far from meeting the demand of Chinese socialist market economy.Through careful studies on both domestic and oversea management consulting industries, this paper tried to clarify the evolvement process of management consulting industry, as well as its development trend, internal and external environment, and the operation characteristics of consultancies. This paper especially focused on identifying Chinese consultancies' shortages in marketing strategy, internal operation mechanism, exploring client requirements, and transferring consulting value. It also focused on answering how consultancies can provide solutions on clients' potential problems, present problems, and even problems may appeared in the future through more efficient interactive service, so as to explore problems restricting Chinese consulting industry's development with improving customer satisfaction level as core objective.If consultancies blindly emphasize the scientific and technological level of its solution, while ignoring the clients' own characteristics and adaptation ability, consulting projects are most likely result in failure. Therefore, to solve this problem, this paper inducted the marketing thought of customer satisfaction. It is believed that when designing solutions, consultancies must start from satisfying clients' requirements and combine with clients' own characteristics, so as to improve customer satisfaction level as well as achieving consultancies' own objectives.Management consulting provides invisible products. Therefore, after a project, how to rationally measure the performance of consulting service, which is value provided to client, is one of the most important ways of improving customer satisfaction, providingmore after sale services, as well as improving brand reputation. Combined some international consultancies' successful experiences, this paper made an attempt on customer ROI and hope it can bring some inspirations for Chinese consulting industry.Finally, this paper quoted a consulting case participated by the writer, appraised the satisfaction level of consulting service by analyzing client's reflection and satisfaction level, knowledge gained from consulting project by client's consulting project participators, application and implementation of consulting solution, business infection, as well as ROI.
