The Study On The Construction Of Hub Port Of Xiamen

Thanks to the success of China's reform and opening policy, the economy of our country increased dramatically by 8%, and the volume of container cargoes has risen to a higher level, which in turn gives a huge momentum to the container shipping market. However, new trends (such as the enlargement of container vessels' scale) become more and more prevalent in shipping sector. Confronted with the incredible changes to the ports all over the world, Xiamen Port sets up its strategies: to make the best of its resources, to become a regional hub port of China with huge steps and create a win-win situation through the cooperation and competition with other ports which would accommodate to the development of the world trade and the shipping market.At first, the paper discusses the mainstream theories relative to build a hub port and the necessary requirements to become a hub port which is illustrated by advanced cases abroad. And in chapter 3, the analysis of Xiamen Port's current conditions is given from which we could explore the weakness of Xiamen to become a regional hub port. And then, the necessity and feasibility for Xiamen Port to be a regional hub port are put forward. In the end, constructive development strategies are posed.
