WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) develops extremely rapidly in recent years, various studies and applications are increasing. It has many features as self-organizing,but network nodes generally have limited resources, strictly limits in the calculation of capacity, energy supply and life cycle etc, which bring a great challenge to design of the protocol, also raise many new issues to research energy consumption mechanism. Basing on these, this thesis researchs on the related key technologies and brings forward the corresponding solutions or models to these problems. Concretly, the main content of the thesis is as following. This paper first analyzes the related background and status, and discusses network structure, working principle, key technologies and research difficulties of the current WSN.Then, illustrate the research purpose. In the following second chapter, analyzes the WSN communication protocols, focusing on the hierarchical structure of the protocol stack, protocol characteristics of each layer, research directions, and in particular discusses the ZigBee protocol stack and its characteristics.Secondly, PHY,MAC protocols and the communication mechanism of radio modem are deeply analyzed, a new WSN sniffer is designed and implemented by using the appropriate hardware and software development platform, it involves a wireless sniffering usb module and the corresponding protocol analysis client, then frame error rate and system throughput are assessed to verify its capabilities of capturing and analyzing data in a real WSN, which provides a powerful tool to research and design of WSN protocol stack .In the end, this thesis focuses on studying energy consumption mechanism in peer to peer WSN. First, a new energy model called TFPEM is proposed based on the analysis of an early proposed energy model for the reliable transmission mechanism. Then analysis and simulations are done to the new energy model under the reliable and the non-reliable transmission mechanism based on a new hardware platform. Simulation results show that TFPEM reflects much better and more concise characteristics of the network energy consumption level than the classic model-FORM, and clearly identify the different level of consumption between the two transmission mechanisms. So TFPEM has a high value for related design and energy consumption research in WSN.
