DWDM technology allows multi wavelengths work as carriers and transmit at the same time in the system. Compared with the performance of normal single channel system, DWDM system makes full use of the fiber's bandwidth, which significantly increases the capacity of the system, and it can support the transmission of dozens of even up to one hundred channels by multiplexer/demultiplexer. DWDM system is not only easy in expansion, reliable in performance, but also capable to multi-business; these advantages promise it a bright prospect. Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer is one of the equipments for key nodes in optical network. The Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer has solved the problem caused by the accumulation of large quantity of electrical switching equipments and terminals, besides it can be remote configured to add/drop channels flexibly and manage the power of each channel as well, which greatly help DWDM optical network become flexible.Theories on DWDM, ROADM, SNMP, as well as the technology in the development of network management had been fully studied and applied into the project of "DWDM" and "ROADM". The job undertaken by the author includes the design, development and test of the network management for DWDM and ROADM.The tasks and innovations contained in this paper are described as following:1.Fully studied the theory and technology on DWDM and ROADM, as well as the hardware structure and system construction. Besides, the requirement analysis of the NMS has been done by the author.2.In the development of NMS for DWDM, a network structure base on FCAPS model was proposed, which contains great practical value. 3.MIB for each unit was designed based on the distributed construction of agent in DWDM system, and SNMP was applied into the network management system.4.The implement of the management modules in ROADM network management system was fully achieved, and the "jfreechart" Class was applied into the performance management module. This implementation made the performance parameters be shown, checked and saved in graphs, which significantly improves the visibility of the NMS, and it is one of the chief innovations in this paper.5.A "Heart Beat" thread was applied in the NMS of ROADM, which solved the problem caused by the changes of hardware units when the NMS is power off.
