With the rapid development of internet business and multimediaapplications, the traffic network is growing exponentially rapid expansion,this requires that the network must have a high bit rate data transmissioncapacity and large throughput cross capacity. DWDM(dense wavelengthdivision multiplexing)system based on EDFA(erbium doped fiberamplifier)power amplifier in the1550window, and use only one fiber totransmit multi-wavelengths, to achieve a large capacity, ultra-long distancetransmission, this is a good solution for the growing demand for bandwidth.The ROADM (reconfigurable optical multiplexer bifurcation) can bedynamically up and down with the optical path, it enables greater flexibilityof optical network, and greatly enhanced the cross-cutting capacity of thenetwork node.As DWDM system is transparency transmit, the optical signal isamplified, transmitted and exchanged (cross connection) as analog signal, which does not handle digital signal, so it can not use overhead bits ways toachieve the network management as SDH optical transmission network, andnew methods must be used to achieve the management and control of opticallayer. Because of the simple, efficient features of SNMP (Simple NetworkManagement Protocol), it has become the defacto industry standard, the goalof this article is just to achieve the network management of ROADM nodedevice in DWDM system by using SNMP protocol, and complete thedynamic management of ROADM system by implementing hot plug-pullcapability of ROADM node equipment.The first chapter of this article introduces the research background andits significance of network management technology, the second chapterdescribes the development of all-optical network and ROADM technology,and SNMP protocols were briefly introduced. the third chapter design theMIB of ROADM system based on the requirements of ROADM systemmanagement, the forth chapter describes the hardware design of ROADMsystem, including the overall design and the sub-module design, the fifth chapter describes the communication protocol used in ROADM system, thesixth chapter describes the software design of ROADM network managementagent system in detail, the seventh chapter using the MIB browser detailedtest the ROADM network management system, and obtained the test results,the eighth chapter summarized the article and future work is prospected.
