As the scale of digital IC design is becoming increasingly larger, the functional verification has become the bottleneck of the IC design. The design teams have to spend 50%-70% of their time on the functional verification. At the same time it is hard to create complex scene and cover the corner scene. When the verification engineer put forward the random-constrain tests verification method, the efficiency and quality of the verification has been improved greatly. The Specman Elite verification flat is based on the random-constrain tests verification method, whose verification language is E. As a High-level Verification Languages, E is very convenient. It provides constraint-based generation, collecting output and data checking and coverage measurement.This subject introduces the functional verification of the Message Decoding Subsystem(MDS) of wireless Base Band chip of the WCDMA with Specman Elite. Firstly, it describes the design of the Message Decoding. It's designed with ASIC and ARM together. Therefore, it saves much source and it's flexible and upgradeable. Then, it introduces in detail the design of verification flat and each module. To use the eRM method provided by Specman Elite, the verification flat turns out to be reuseable. The functional verification of MDS bases on the Random-Constrain and the Coverage Driven Verification(CDV) methods. Compared with the traditional method, it avoids writing many tests by hand, make it easier to reach the verge and is able to finds out errors of the design. Thus the efficiency and quality of the verification has been improved. Lastly, the subject gives the analysis of the functional coverage and the code coverage. They all reach 100 percent, indicating the functional verification of MDS is very plenitudinous.
