With the accelerating development of economic globalization and growing diversity of market demand, the competition is getting more serious between steel manufacturers. The"multi-variety"and"small–batch"order-oriente manufacturing mode are usually used by those manufacturers, in during which a lot of time, materials and other waste mainly happen in production logistics activities such as storage, handling, transporting, processing-waitting, and transportation. Arena simulation technology can be used to simulate and optimize the model of steel pipe production logistics system reasonably and effectively, thus improve pipe manufacturing productivity, reduce production costs, enhance the core competitiveness of steel manufacturing enterprises.Based on the research of a certain steel pipe manufacturing plant of an enterprise in Chongqing, combined with the professional simulation software Arena simulation technology, it constructed steel production logistics system simulation and optimization model, which provided scientific and effective methods and technology using in the production logistics system management. The main research contents are as follows:1 Based on the theory of modeling and simulation of the production logistics system, the current production logistics system optimization methods and the major simulation software are analyzed, the relevant domestic and foreign literatures about steel manufacturers simulation and modeling are studied.2 Through analyzing the steel production process, production logistics system characteristics and problems, this essay summed up steel production logistics system's basic components and production logistics simulation system3 A research on workshops of a steel pipe manufacturer in Chongqing was made and its production logistics system was analyzed by using professional simulation software Arena simulation technology, then a steel pipe manufacturing production logistics system simulation model was built.4 The chaos logistics line and back flow problems existed in the production logistics system was analyzed, the production logistics system of the critical sections: pickling and cold-drawing workshops were optimized. Focus on the traffic scheduling problem, the key issue in the production logistics system of pickling and cold-drawing workshops, first of all the optimal simulation-based combination of scheduling rules for crane-scheduling was chosen , then based on it the production logistics system was optimized by using OptQuest, at last the simulation model results were compared with the original one to found the best one.
