WCDMA is one of the three main standards of the Third Generation (3G) communication technology and has been constructed and applied in commercial field in CHINA. It utilizes Wideband Code Division Multiple technology, therefore it brings the problems of soft handover and softer handover. Two or more than two frequency points will be used by the network scale continuously extending, so it brings the problems of hard handover too. Now it is very important that INTER_SYSTEM_HO does exist between 2G and 3G as a result of GAM and WCDMA coexisting. The optimizing to every handover event of WCDMA network is becoming more and more necessary because of the above causes. The aim is to improve the system performance step by step and infinitely approach the groove state of the network. So we can meet the needs of sustaining changes and developing service requirements and provide the best service quality.The paper mainly studies the problems of handover in WCDMA system, including soft handover, hard handover and IRATHO. The first chapter introduces the characteristics of the three main 3G principles and outbursts the advantages of WCDMA by comparison. The second chapter introduces the basic knowledge about wireless network plan of WCDMA system in detail. The third chapter introduces handover principles of WCDMA system. The fourth chapter introduces the methods of analyzing and solving to handover problems of WCDMA system. The fifth chapter gives concrete cases of every handover type combining existing networks. The sixth chapter is a conclusion to this paper. Some opinions of me about optimizing network-handover are put forward by studying fully correlated references and books in order that they will be theoretical direction in the course of network-handover of WCDMA system in future!It proves to be true that these methods can increase function index of the whole network effectively and improve the customer sensible degree.
