In recent decades, the development of mobile communications has undergone dramatic changes, now people are concerned about nothing more than the3G, because the2G has the Shortcomings of multimedia services unvailable, low Internet speed, and can’t well solve the global roaming which make it can not meet people’s needs."any person, at any time, any place and communicate with any people" is no longer a dream just because the arrival of3G.3G not only inherited the good features of high degree of standardization and openness, but can also achieve video telephony, high-speed data download and upload, telephone conferencing which can’t available in2G. Handoff technology as one of the key technology of WCDMA is essential to ensure the mobility in mobile communication network. The performance of handoff is good or bad has great impact on the whole network service and operation quality. Handoff is the core technology of mobile communication system,so researching and optimization on handoff have very real significance in ensure its network quality of service.Firstly,the paper made a introduction about the development of the current WCDMA and the importance of the swiching.Followed which a detailed elaboration on handoff and signaling processes was made.then the papers introduced the parameter setting and analysis.Finally the airtical analysised the handover performance to verify the effectiveness of this optimization.
