In this work, a Multi-Function fault diagnosis instrument based on USBI and ZigBee is presented, which fully uses the advantages of USB interface and ZigBee technology, with the dual function of off-line spot inspection and online condition monitoring.The independently developed hardware includes the data collector, the router and the wireless controller.The data collector can acquire temperature and vibration, which can interface to PDA via USB connecter to implement spot inspection, with the power supply provided by the USB host port of the PDA.When used for on-line monitoring, the collector can be fixed on the machine, while the wireless controller connecting to the PC through the USB interface, with the router between them. The collector, the router and the wireless controller can build ZigBee network by playing the role of the end device, the router and the coordinator separately, in which they can communicate with each other wirelessly through ZigBee protocol, forming a variety of topologies. The PC can be interfaced to the Internet and the GPRS/GSM module, constructing large-scale online condition monitoring network.The collector can realize wireless online monitoring with the wireless controller (and the router). On the one hand, it has the dual function of off-line spot inspection and online monitoring, saving the cost; on the other hand, the wireless online monitoring uses the 2.4G free frequency band and the network is flexible without complex and expensive wiring unlike the wired monitoring, whose network architecture is fixed.Experimental results show that this instrument provides a reasonable and low-cost solution for machinery condition monitoring and fault diagnosis, which has also achieved good results in practical application and met the requirements of industrial field, with the characteristics of simple structure, small in size, light in weight, low power consumption and easy to use.
