Monitoring temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, redox potential, turbidity, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate, nitrite of aquaculture water has great significance to aquaculture industry. In recent years with the increments of species and production the research and application of aquaculture production and management automation technology has also got more extensive attention. Sensor technology, wireless communication technology and computer graphics technology are widely used in aquaculture production and management. With the rapid development of aquaculture, the real-time monitoring is becoming even more important. As aquaculture continues to develop, especially the model changed from extensive farming to intensive farming, more space is provided to the computer monitoring system. The automatic detection and monitoring of water quality parameters can not only greatly improve the efficiency of aquaculture production and economic benefits, but also provide information for decision-making and reduce the labor of workers. By historical data we can also improve the condition of aquaculture to have high production. Water quality monitoring system not only need to complete data collection and transmission, and provide interface to facilitate inquiries, but also need to meet the requirements of low-cost and low power.ZigBee is an emerging short-range, low-rate wireless network technology. Because of its convenience, ZigBee will be widely used in many fields, such as industrial control, wireless location and home networks. System on chip CC2430 includes an enhanced 8051 core and radio frequency modules, and this solution can improve performance and meet ZigBee requirements of low-cost and low power. The development of wireless sensor network technology provides great convenience and feasibility for water quality parameters of collection and transmission. Embedded ARM technology and embedded Linux also has been widely used in real-time monitoring for its low cost and simplicity. Embedded database SQLite and embedded Web server technology solved the problem that how to storage data and realize remote access under the condition of ARM that hardware resource is very limited.Aiming at improving the lagging fact and low automation level of Weihai aquaculture water quality monitoring method, a water quality monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless communication protocol and ARM is discussed in this paper. We realized a three layers on-line monitoring framework that based on ZigBee collection and forwarding module, ARM data processing module and host computer interface. As we know it is not convenient to layout lines in water production farms, after comparing several commonly used short-range wireless communication protocol, we choose ZigBee Protocol to transfer data. Based on the study of ZigBee network topology and Networking Method, and considering the actual situation of aquaculture, starlike network is used to forming a network. The data collected by Data Acquisition Node are transmitted to the network coordination by wireless mode. Network coordinator reported data to the ARM through serial port protocol. ARM store the data to database, construct BOA server and provide human-machine interface based on B/S mode. Users can query data by logging in the web page from any computer on the Internet. This system can realize the following functions:real-time data collection, wireless data transmission and provide human-machine interface. At the same time, provide possible pathway for resolving distributed moniting and the difficulties for deploying wires. The system is easy to be built, and easy to expand the site. Except this, after small improvement it can be used is other monitoring area easily.
