With the continuous development of society and science technology, more and more various measuring instruments are required and the demand for performance of measuring equipment is getting higher. A new measuring equipment represented by virtual instrument has changed the idea of traditional equipment, it is a new measuring technology that combines the technologies of electronic measuring, technologies of computer, technologies of network. With the development of computer science, virtual instrument technology is widely used in measurement and automation, and it becomes an important respect of measure and control nowadays. The application of virtual instrument technique can satisfy the need of sharing hardware with software resources, by making use of the strong function of computer, it can carryout data processing and saving, signal analysis, displaying in graphical mode and so on. And it is prevalent to design and implement virtual instrument of measurement and automation system by using LabVIEW development platform.This paper based on the design idea of virtual instrument and the design approach of function modularization, using computer and data acquisition card as hardware system, developed a monitoring instrument which software platform is LabVIEW--industrial sewage multi-parameter online real-time monitoring system which has ability of human-computer interaction, and has function of data acquisition, noise reduction, real-time monitoring and data management. Firstly, the paper introduces the concept, structure and characteristic of virtual instrument, and the development of virtual instrument is also discussed. Secondly, it describes the structure and accomplishment of hardware, it includes sensors, data acquisition card and the design of signal conditioning circuit. At last, the paper introduces the software design which includes the software frame and program flow. In this part, it describes each of function modules in detail.The industrial sewage multi-parameter online real-time monitoring system has achieved the sewage multi-parameter automatic collecting, recording, controlling and management, has the function of online monitoring and data management. The system has such advantages as high stability, friendly operating interface, high testing efficiency, high degree of automation and high cost performance, and completed the unifying idea of industrial sewage multi-parameter monitoring, management and controlling.
