With the rapid progress of Internet application,broadband users can't be satisfied with the simple internet browsing any more,providing more internet based multimedia services such as video phone,IPTV,tends to be more and more necessary. But it will increase the bandwidth consumption of the network if providing multimedia business such as IPTV on the whole network. While Metropolitan Area Networks,especially the Access Networks, the quality of the access line and the performance of the equipment, are designed for simple internet service. So it must be optimized and rebuilt for the new multimedia services. In recent years,a lot of broad band technologies which are applicable to different environments arise along with the rapid development of the Access Networks, which brings the possibility of speeding up the existing wide-band network.First of all papers introduce the background and the final goal of the project of improving the speed of broadband in Yuzhong district.The goal of the project is that the bandwidth of 70 percent user is 6Mbps;the bandwidth of 25 percent user is 2Mbps;the bandwidth of others is 512kbps.In the paper,PON is deemed to the trend of development of the broadband Access Networks. But it is expensive and out of service,it can't develop cosmically. xDSL, as one of the most important technology of the broadband Access Networks, brings possibility to improve the speed of broadband network at present. Papers also focus on the realignment of the copper network,downshift of the Dslam equipment,FTTH technology,VDSL technology and ADSL2+ technology. The principle,the features,the applicable environments and the real available speed of different kinds of Access Networks technologies. Detailed analysis and comparison show that, Dslam equipment downshift and ADSL2+ technology are suitable for the project of improving the speed of broadband in Yuzhong district. The scheme based on Dslam equipment downshift and ADSL 2+ technology is designed for improving the speed of broadband in Yuzhong district. As proved, the two plans both meet the demand. The scheme of Dslam equipment downshift is finally put into execution because of its low cost. In the paper, the results analysis after being carried out is also examined, and is compared with the initial goal. It is concluded to be a successful scheme. The project of improving the speed of broadband in Yuzhong district is of great significance to Chongqing's information construction. Obviously, the paper provides basis for this project. Also it is a good model for improving the speed of broadband for whole city.
