ADSL broadband has been the main business of telecom operators in China. By the end of Feb, 2007, there are more than 55 Millions broadband users in China.Quick increasing of broadband users brings high-rating faults, which makes maintenance departmens in telecom operators much busier. Some new businesses, such as IPTV, even need higher quality. After long-term tracing and investigation of broadband faults, we found the most faults are not issued in office equipmengs and cable, but user-end. We also found broadband users in China do have strong IT and network knowledge. When users meet broadband problems, they don’t know how to solve them. The only way is to call the hotline which brings hign pressure to telecom maintenance departments.According to these problems, telecom opretorts tried to establish some fault testing system from office. But after using, they found it’s hard to judge the user-end problems. In this article, we design and implement a user-end fault testing system. With this system, telecom oprator can determine the exact position of faults and provide a tool for the users to solve some problems automatically. We also discussed how to communicate with various types of ADSL Modems.
