Based on the analysis on the characteristic of the traditional driving axle's design method, the implementation strategy of the automobile driving axle was studied with virtual method. The automobile driving axle virtual design system was developped to design and calculate the driving axle which is based on SolidWorks software and ANSYS software.Based on the software engineering idea, the dissertation elaborated on design ideas of the automobile driving axle virtual design system in four parts: concept design, detail design, geometrical modeling and analyzing, construction parts classifing. Finally, an example of practical operation was presented.The relations among element parameters were controlled by the definition of design parameters type and classification of constraint among parameters. The parameter information database, dimension constraint functions database and knowledge constraint database were established effectively. By analysing the mathematical model and the design process of driving axle, the index searching algorithm and the parameter updating algorithm were given to accomplish the function of parameter updating and searching. The process of designing driving axle elements and process of establishing parameter information database, dimension constraint function database and knowledge constraint database were described in detail with the given quasi-double-bevel gears as an example. The developed automobile driving axle virtual design system was measured with standard involute gear design, the results showed that it can meet the basic practical design requirements.The developped system had several leading features, such as robust, extensible, interface friendly, data management favorable property, and so on. The principles and the techniques of the system not only met the requirement of the redevelopment of the driving axle, but also could be referenced in the develpoment of special software system of other product.
