Driving axle is an important part of car, supporting the whole car, but also bear various force and moment coming from frame and pavement, so driving-axle-housing must have enough strength, stiffness and dynamic characteristics and long service life. While driving axle housing shape is complex,so the traditional design method difficult to satisfy the modern automobile design requirements due to it's obvious flaws,such as time-consuming,not economic and reliability inferior.The advent of the computer and the rapid development of finite element technique bring new revolution for automobile driving axle housing structure performance analysis. This paper firstly established the subcompact driving axle housing 3d geometric model using 3d modeling software (Solidworks), and than import the model into Patran, mesh it with shell elements and solid elements, apply appropriate load and constraint, established finite element model of the driving axle housing. Secondly, This paper analysis the strength and rigidity of driving axle housing under various typical working conditions using Nastran, and aslo using Fatigue analysis software (MSC. Fatigue) predicted the Fatigue life of driving axle housing.Finally paper put forward the improvement scheme to driving axle housing, on the basis of the structural analysis and fatigue analysis before. The corresponding finite element analysis of improved scheme restarted, and the results showed that the improvement technology is feasible and effective.
