The passive optical network (PON) breaks traditional point-to-point solution and only uses passive nodes, so it costs lower in operation and is easy to upgrade. Compared with APON and EPON, Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) is an emerging broadband access network technology, which has advantages of high-efficiency, high-speed, high-bandwidth utilization and so on. Therefore, GPON has bright prospects. In order to ensure that the operation of GPON network is stable, efficient and accurate, we must provide an effective network management system. It is particularly important. So the research of GPON network management system is of important and practical significance.This paper is based on the discussion of GPON system and network management system. It discusses ONT management and control interface deeply, which is an important part of GPON network management system. Firstly, based on the analysis of OMCI related protocols and the design of models of OLT and ONT, this paper proposes the module block diagram of ONT management and control interface. Then on the base of serial terminal of embedded systems, this paper compiles C program to realize the function of ONT management and control interface. Specific works and results of the paper are as follows:1,This paper uses the GPON network management system program which is based on SNMP, and analyzes two levels of it. At the same time, on the bases of the analysis of OMCI related protocols and the design of models of OLT and ONT, this paper designs a kind of module block diagram which can describe ONT management and control interface. About how the OLT and ONT realize communication, the module block makes a complete description. The description satisfies the need of ONT management and control interface standard. The design of the standardized module block diagram is an innovation point. About OMCI frames that are communicated between OLT and ONT such as "get" and "set" frames, this paper makes the specific coding and design. This is an important work of the design. 2,According to ONT management and control functional module, this paper builds a hardware platform of ONT management and control module. While this paper also complete the software initialization of hardware platform and the establishment of cross-compilation development environment. The establishment of ONT management and control module is pivotal to the realization of the function of ONT management and control interface.3,About the realization of the function of ONT management and control interface, this paper puts forward a processing scheme of OMCI frame. The scheme is compiling C program which is based on serial terminal of S3C2410 embedded systems to realize the sending,receiving and processing of OMCI frame. This development approach is simple and convenient. The capability of Software testing is strong. At the same time, the proposing of the processing scheme of OMCI frame is also an innovation point.This paper highlights the design and realization of ONT management and control interface, In future research work, we also should design ONT MIB and the communication between Network management unit and OLT, as well as continuously improve the hardware environment. This research plays a positive role in completing GPON network management system.
