PON (passive optical network) breaks through traditional solution from point to point on optical access network and only passive nodes are involved, so it costs lower in operation and easy to upgrade. Compared with APON (ATM Passive Optical Network) and EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network), GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) is more promising technology for the realization of broadband access network due to its high-efficiency, high-speed, being able to fully utilize bandwidth, supporting transparent transmission for multi-service, and ensuring excellent quality of service, and so on. Therefore, GPON has bright prospects.GPON ONT (optical network terminal), which are numerous and scattered, need to be placed close to users. Therefore, its on-site maintenance is difficult and costs high. Thus, an effective terminal remote management system is particularly important for GPON. Comprehensive consideration of the system development, management cost, technology maturity and other factors, the terminal management system based on ONT management control interface protocol has been developed in this paper. The following is main research work:1,Researching and analyzing GPON system structure, control and management plane, and OMCI (ONT Management and Control Interface) protocol; explaining hardware platform and software architecture of our researching GPON system; designing the GPON terminal system software structure which includes the system module diagram and data processing in combining our GPON system structure and characteristics.2,According to the requirements for the system, OMCI MIB (management information base) has been designed and realized. In view of the requirements of stabilization, speediness and compatibility and characteristics of embedded Linux system characteristics, embedded MySQL relational database management system was selected to develop OMCI MIB database in our research. MIB data table has been designed by utilizing OMCI information data structure. Moreover, the database interface which is with function of creation, deletion, inquiry and modification for the database has also been realized by using MySQL C interface functions.3,The software, the process structure, and the data process for each child module of OLT and ONT terminal management system have been detailed designed, and the terminal management system program has been developed based on embedded Linux system, which includes the registration of OLT management command, the design of processing pattern, the realization of OMCI news interactive and overtime retransmission system, and the realization of configuration, performance and alerting management.4,Testing GPON terminal management system function; executing the terminal management program on GPON prototype; validating the three management function of configuration, performance, and alarm by inputting commands into the controlling terminal of OLT devices; realizing remote maintenance for ONT.
