Based on the treatment of the source location information extracted from the radio signal which is searched, captured, analyzed and identified in specific region, we can determine the direction of the radiation sources. This is called directional radio. In the field of aviation and voyage, this technology appeared earlier and the required precision is relatively high. In recent years, along with the continued progress of science and technology, radio technology has gained a rapid development. Apart from applications in the military, the technology has obtained increasingly extensive application in the civilian field. The directional radio system in my subject is actually a auxiliary location system. First, it determines the general position with mature GSM network in some complex environments where the GPS satellite signals can not meet the demand of positioning, and then the directional module is started to confirm the precise position of the terminal. Therefore, the system works in vehicle mode, its structure does not need to be too complex but should be small and low cost.This thesis first introduces the relevant radio expertise such as location concept, classifications and common directional mechanism. Then, according to the given indicator and the actual working environment, we choose the appropriate directional mechanism; finish the design of the overall architecture and every function module. After that, we select the RF transceiver chip based on the result of the theoretical derivation and mathematical calculations. In addition, the type of the receiver antenna and the method of data processing are also considered. Then, according to the actual needs of the system, through a detailed analysis of the designed part of the transmit chip, some important parameters of electronic component in the chip are been identified. Finally, the transmit chip is integrated to the positioning system, through the analysis of the control principle of the transmit chip, we completed the drive programmer of the directional radio module in the positioning terminal system, and verify the feasibility of the directional radio module in the entire positioning system.
