With the development of high technologies, such as the computer, means of communications, intelligent control technology and other high-tech, and the increasing demand of the train running speed and the operating density, it is hoped that we can apply these high-tech to the train control, to research and design the Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system with a safe, stable, high-speed automatic operation, arrival punctuality and precise stopping. However, the process of train running is extremely complex, for it was affected by many factors, such as line conditions, natural conditions, the extent of drivers. What's more, the different conditions need different control objectives and control strategies. Therefore, to find a suitable and scientific algorithm for the ATO system is currently much focused.First of all, the thesis studies and analyzes the composition principles, functions and operating strategies of the ATO system. Secondly, based on comparing and contrasting several different kinds of predictive control algorithm, as well as theoretically studying Implicit Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) algorithm, the feasibility to apply the Implicit GPC algorithm in the ATO system is analyzed and the speed controller of ATO system based on the Implicit GPC is thus designed. Thirdly, combining the actual model of running train and the GPC algorithm, the author designs the simulation software and simulates the operation process. Finally, the author compares and analyzes the indicators of the train on by one.According to the analysis, the ATO system can achieve the various performance indicators when the IGPC is applied to it. And it can appropriately handle the influence of line conditions, wind and other factors. Moreover, the ATO system designed in the paper can be applied in different line conditions and train formations, which have better portability. It is hoped that the work of study and analysis in this paper can be of some reference value for the design and application of ATO system.
