In recent years, the application of the Visual Reality technology is becoming more and more extensive. It greatly enhances the exchange mode between human and computer. In this case, the virtual manufacturing technology is resulted in. Virtual assembly is an important part of virtual manufacture technique. It has very important research value for being a kind of brand-new thought or method to the technique of assembling designing at present. Visual simulation assembly design is a very important step of the product design. It brings numerous economic benefits for the enterprises. For example, it enhances the quality and reliability of the products, reduces the production costs and lessens the stock.In this paper, on the basis of virtual reality technology and CAD technology, taking the model mechanical products as the object of study, has researched on the theory and key technology of virtual assembly, including aspects of three-dimensional modeling, adjustment position and oritation, interactive operationand collide checked, system optimization, etc. Based on the three-dimensional position movement matrix and the transformation matrix of the products during the installation sistuation, it solves the problems of disassembly and installation of the parts. It also discusses Virtual Reality Modelling Language VRML and its project application, and more deep research is carried out on the technology of collision detection in assembling plan. With VRML and the Javascript language, this paper constructs the alternant environment of the virtual assembly, therefor, user can make interactive operation on assemble target in real time. It also simulats working condition of the motion organization and carries on the interference examination to prompt improvement, revise product design plan, and reduce physics prototype testing sequence.This paper takes the gear pump as an example to realize the virtual assembly of the products and the the imitating analysis of the moving mechanism. This can provide the experience for the virtual assembly of typical mechanical products with these technique and methods.
