With the improvement of IT and network, CIMS has played a more and more important role in the building of information system for manufacture enterprise. Agile manufacturing is considered to be broader and higher integration technology of CIMS. The arrangement means of virtual enterprise and the development methods are the most fundamental to agile manufacturing. In virtual manufacturing, more emphasis is placed on the realization methods and the key technologies. With the technologies of simulation, modeling, virtual reality and so on, virtual manufacturing provides the 3D visual interactive environment to simulate the entire process of product designing and manufacturing. This contributes greatly to bringing quicker responsiveness, higher quality, lower cost, shorter cycle times etc.A sub-projcet of "The research of manufacture system on network and mechanism model for the manufacturing enterprise" supported by Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation, this article is mainly about one of the key parts of virtual manufacturing,web-based assembly visualization which is a kind of simplified virtual assembly. Due to the dynamic union of enterprises and the difference among the development environments of those corporations, the virtual assembly system needs to break the limit of hardware and CAD environments. I mainly discuss the thought on the establishment of a web-based, open-technology-enabled, easily integrative, synergic visual assembly system in this article. We use the technologies of Java and VRML to build the system running on Web in order to achieve the above objects. First, the specialty of the web-based simulation is discussed and a novel web based 3D visual simulation environment is presented. Secondly, we do some research on the collaboration of multi-users. In Addition, we try putting forward a new method of integrating manufacture information databases. Based on the above research, we have implemented the main parts of a prototype.In the end, the dissertation summarizes the work that we have done and give a brief description about the research to be done in the future.
