In the recent years, with the development and maturation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, RFID is being gradually widely adopted and deployed in many fields, such as product line, retail, logistics, communications transportation and so on, and continue to penetrate to new areas. However, due to the expensive cost and high complexity of RFID device integration into enterprise application systems, the popularization of RFID technology has been restricted. In this case, RFID Middleware is a good solution. Complex Event Processing (CEP) is an extract and analyze information technology, which can send information to application systems according to demand. Using CEP in RFID Middleware can greatly enhance the middleware's ability of processing data, thus improve the efficiency of the RFID system. This paper begins from the application of RFID, analyzes the function modules of RFID Middleware according to the demand of practical application, and proposes a solution of RFID Middleware based on CEP.First, the thesis discusses current development situation of RFID technology and RFID middleware in the worldwide area, and analyzes the background and significance of the study. Then this paper briefly introduces definition, development, characteristics of RFID middleware and related knowledge about CEP. Based on the demand of practical application of RFID middleware, this paper analyzes the key point and summarizes design objectives. Finally, combines with hierarchical thinking, this paper proposes the solution of RFID middleware based on CEP, designs the infrastructure of RFID middleware and realizes the function modules.In this paper, the RFID middleware consists of four layers: device management layer, data processing layer, event processing layer and service layer. Device management layer sees to manage the devices through reader adapter, logistic reader and classing tags. Data processing layer is mainly responsible for data collection and processing of redundant data. Filters are designed to filter redundant data. Event processing layer deals with events by the modules of buffering, processing and checking. Service layer sees to communicate with application systems and send data to them. Finally, this paper gives the further work on improvement of RFID middleware system.
