Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an automatical and contactless technology that uses communication via radio waves. Because of its excellent features of identification and reduction of deployment cost, this technology develops rapidly in recent years. However, due to the high complexity of RFID devices integration into application systems and the difficulty of processing large amounts of data generates by devices, the application of RFID technology has been restricted. This thesis aims at the actual demands of author's project, and researched the RFID Middleware System based on Complex Event Processing (CEP) technology (CEP-RMS). The problem of device's management could be solved via middleware technology, and the middleware's ability of processing data would also be improved via CEP technology. The work of this thesis can shorten the development period of application programs, simplify RFID integration into system's business, improve deployment of products and improve the efficiency of the RFID system.The main works of this thesis are as follows:(1) Proposed the architecture of RFID middleware based on CEP. All the key technologies need to be resolved were analyzed, integrated with Esper, which is an open source CEP system, the architecture of CEP-RMS was designed. With the actual demand of applications, this paper improved the architecture of CEP-RMS on single machine, proposed distributed CEP-RMS that uses communication via messages. After analyzing and solving the key problems, this thesis designed the architecture of distributed CEP-RMS.(2) Designed and realized a CEP-RMS on single machine. Based on the above-mentioned architecture, this thesis analyzed system's demands at first. Then a system from the bottom layer to top layer was designed and implemented.(3) Comprehensively tested the CEP-RMS. With the concrete problems of author's project, a simulating experimental enviourment was proposed. Then, CEP-RMS's function and performance following the test case were tested. The experimental results show that combining with CEP technology, the RFID middleware not only manages devices effectively, but also processes data to complex events in real-time.The CEP-RMS can remove the applications'impact generated by device updating, and extend its function to produce complex events which the business system need, so that business system can focus on its core business processing. The distributed CEP-RMS can meet application's requirements in the enviourment with large-scale RFID readers. The research results can be applied to enterprise business system which will deploy lots of RFID application systems, and the results have enormous pratical applications.
