Radio Frequency Identification technology is an automatic identification technology, which can be non-contact automatic identification of the target object and obtain the relevant data in this process. At this stage, RFID technology has been used in transportation, asset management, logistics and retail, manufacturing, health care service industries, which can effectively reduce costs and improve efficiency. Given the huge market potential of RFID technology, it is recognized as one of the most popular technology this century. RFID middleware plays an intermediary role between the RFID tags and applications; it is a core part of the RFID system. It provides a common interface for the application referred to as APIs. This shields the underlying hardware differences. And the upper application layer can obtain the required tag data. This design provides favorable support for large-scale application of RFID technology.In RFID middleware, event processing is the most important functions. There are several problems in event handling for RFID middleware products currently. For example, event handling abilities are bad, event processing rules are simple and event handling real-time is poor. These problems largely restricted the pace of development of RFID technology. For the above-mentioned problems, this paper adopts the design concept that integrates RFID middleware technology and complex event processing technology together. Complex event processing technology can be real-time processing of large-scale complex event, and then to solve the above problems. This paper first introduces the RFID middleware technology and complex event processing technology. Then it summarized the existing problems of the RFID middleware solutions.Second, for the existing problems of the RFID middleware solutions, the new model which integrates RFID middleware technology and complex event processing technology was proposed. The model uses the hierarchical structure: equipment management complete the unified management of the tag data format converter and readers; data cleaning layer uses the de-emphasis filter complete basic filtering and then stores the tag data to the data cache queue. Event detection layer contains the ALE processor and Esper complex event processing engine, the ALE processor for data filtering and combination treatment. The Esper engine can mining richer meaning of the business logic of events on the basis of the ALE processor; communication layer transfers events to the upper application layer by using asynchronous way or stores the events in the relational database in MySQL to use in future queries. The data cleaning layer and the event detection layer are core parts of the complex event processing. After experimental verification, each module of RFID middleware complex event processing model achieves the intended function. And the model has good flexibility as well as scalability because of the hierarchical structure, so the model has good practical value.Finally, summarize the RFID middleware complex event processing model presented in this paper and point out the deficiencies and future research projects.
