This paper start with study on new media and media literacy, from which a new concept, new media literacy, is derived. This new concept is based on characteristics of new media, and is about the new techniques audiences should command as well as the ability of choosing, understanding, oppugning, evaluating, creating and producing and reacting of thinking and arguing when facing with all kinds of messages from media.Since the young are the main target audiences, the paper chiefly raised two topics: What is the current level of the young's ability of new media literacy? What are the chief factors that affect the young's ability of new media literacy? On these two assumptions, the paper turns the ability of new media literacy to measurable items, which is reflected in investigation papers. Then through investigating nearly 300 students from middle school, high school, and college, and analyzing on the investigation using means of average and regressive analysis, the result comes out: The young show some ability of literacy in using and sense of security, while not that well in evaluating messages. Meanwhile, instead of only one, there are many factors that affect the young's new media literacy, among which contacting and studying as well as patriarchal attitude are the principle.At the end of the paper, the author brings forward some correlative advices on continuous research, hoping some use for reference to the area and to the research framework.
