With the development of the society, information has become more and more important for enterprises'living and developing, information management has become a very important issue for an enterprise, at the same time, the rapid development of computer science makes computer applications coming into every aspect of people's life, management information system for enterprise emerged because of this situation.The scale and complexity of management information system are raised rapidly because of the huge amount of information and fast development of the computer science and technology, at the same time, users hope that the management information system becomes more expansible and easier to maintain, which both make designing on management information system, especially on large management information system, in difficulty. At the same time, in order to overcome the disadvantage of traditional C/S systems and meet the demand of people's more requirements on sharing resources and distributed computing, multiple-layered architecture based on B/S structure, distributed technology and groupware technology are born. These technologies provide a great deal of support for developing expansible, easy-maintainable and high-performance large application software system not only in theory but also in practice. Of them, distributed technology makes every object in application system remain anywhere in the net by the shape of isolated physical entity and be visited remotely by other objects in the same system. Distributed technology also supports for the realization of groupware's reuse. RMI(Remote Method Invocation) of Java expresses the idea of distributed technology and inherits every virtue of Java, therefore it is obvious a very good choice of developing large distributed system.The progresses of theory and technology in management information system, especially in large distributed management information system, not only provide more choices, more flexible and convenient in developing the system, but also increase the difficulty in analysis and design on this kind of management information system. Faced with these circumstances, the whole system architecture design on software should be put on high importance. In order to make software more expansible, easier to be maintained and reused, based on software architecture and Java technology, a software architecture for distributed management information system based on RMI has been put forward in this paper, some key parts, which are brought forward based on the features of management information system, has also been detailed designed.
