Nowadays all kinds of advanced science and technology are developing rapidly. The Internet technology which is represented by communication, computer and network is leaping. The information network technology has become one of the bases and lifelines of the national economy and the promotion of social and economic development. With the high-speed integration with the global information, obtaining information through the network is going to bring enormous economic and social benefits for the enterprise. To operate and manage by means of information technology has become the essential measure of all enterprises which seek scientific management. The Institute of China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry also needs an information system to improve the efficiency of their researching work in order to enhance the social competitiveness. Management information system (MIS) is a typical application of enterprise management system. How to develop a safe and reliable MIS fast and efficiently, and how to deliver the system successfully in the shortest time and with minimum cost have become one of the hot topics of the industry.This study gives a solution of lightweight enterprise application information system, which integrates Visual Studio, SQL Server, XML, BI (SSAS) and data mining, based on a successful case of distributed information management system. Firstly, the model of existing information management systems is referred. The advantages and disadvantages of B/S and C/S software architecture are discussed. Distributed Information Management System is analyzed in detail, and the overall technical framework of software with three-tier structure based on C/S is proposed. Secondly, data mining technology and the business intelligence (BI) technology which is launched by Microsoft recently with its application in data mining are discussed. A relatively complete decision support module is built using the data mining function realized by SSAS module designing in SQL Server. Thirdly, the API, such as ado.net/adomd.net, which is the technology of integrating SQL database and Visual Studio platform, is researched. This interface not only coordinates the client and the database perfectly, but also docks the completed data mining module and system successfully. At last, the distributed information management system is achieved using structural programming language, such as Visual C #. This system, which functions perfectly, performs stably and has high efficiency, has been put into official use in research work and achieves excellent results.
