As the bridge of connecting product design and manufacturing, process design has significant impact on the quality of products, manufacturing cost and the response ability to the market. At the same time, every enterprise hopes their valuable experience will be inherited and developed in a better way.So, applying the theory of intelligent CAPP, process variant design technology of manufacturing features, the design methods of model and process modeling supporting process variant design, and three-dimension based process variant design was researched in this thesis.Firstly, the process variant design technology of manufacturing features was researched. According to the processing methods of features, the process template of manufacturing feature was built. Taking the template as the basis, the features process consistent with the actual process can be obtained according to the actual parameters of manufacturing features. The process variant design of parts were researched and implemented by the process variant design of manufacturing features from the level of features. According to the similarity features, the calculation method of the degree of process borrowing was put forward, which provided a measure for finding a more typical process similar to the actual one.Secondly, the design methods and rules of model and process modeling which support process variant design were studied. In order to support process variant design , cutting material method , parametric design and the method of feature-combining named base building block, were used from the beginning of design. On the basis of parameterized model and manufacturing resource library, the creating of process modeling is finally achieved by by creating process route, process dimension chain and process maps.Thirdly, the process variant method and steps of parts based on 3D and manufacturing features were researched. According to the degree of model changed, the type of process variant was fixed, and process change was completed in accordance with the rules and steps the steps of each category. On the basis of parametric process template, the process contents and processing parameters were updated, and working procedure change was completed. Ultimately, process variant design of parts was achieved.Finally, on the basis of the above research, the component modules and designing methods of three-dimensional process variant design system were analyzed. A prototype system, to verify and experiment the principle of process variant design, to illustrate the methods and flow of process variant design system, was developed which takes the process variant design of gear as actual object.
