At present, the rapid development of computer and information technology is injecting new power to the manufacturing sector. Many old manufacturing enterprises have been investing more and more capital in developing information building project. However, in the matter of product design, a lot of enterprises are still lying in 2D-3D design transforming condition. They have not integrated industry product feature and developing process to carry out deeper application and second development of CAD, such as realizing parametric modeling and intelligent design. After many enterprises imported products, they find they have to continue to use 2D drawing, just because these products were imported in 2D form. Although some designer is using Pro/E, he has to use AutoCAD to pass on the products. At the same time, in the matter of process planning, the designer is still used to old manual input process planning card, without building CAPP based on 3D platform, not to mention realizing the integration of CAD/CAM through CAPP.Under this background, according to the real manufacturing needs of tobacco machinery, this article has developed a CAD/CAPP integration system based on Pro/E platform. the advantage of this system is: this system integrated process planning and designing information to the 3D model successfully, realized the real integration of CAD and CAPP ,accumulated enterprise knowledge and reuse design resource ,maintained consistency of product design data ,process planning data and manufacture data .at the same time , navigated process planning ,automated process labeling. This system can apparently improve the designing quality, shorten development cycle, and lower the cost. It has a very promising future in spreading its application.
