A wireless sensor network(WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions,such as temperature,sound,vibration,pressure,motion or pollution,at different locations.WSNs are now used in many industrial and civilian application areas,including industrial process monitoring and control,machine health monitoring,environment and habitat monitoring,healthcare applications,home automation,and traffic control.Directed Diffusion is a data-centric,data dissemination paradigm for WSNs. Directed Diffusion has some novel features:data-centric dissemination, reinforcement-based adaptation to the empirically best path,and in-network data aggregation and caching.These features can enable highly energy-efficient and robust dissemination in dynamic sensor networks,while at the same time minimizing the per-node configuration that is characteristic of today's networks.This thesis first outlines the concept of WSN,characteristics,application areas and key technologies.Chapter 2 Introduces typical wireless sensor network routing protocol.Chapter 3 introduces the NS2 simulation software.Chapter 4 implements Flooding Routing Protocol in NS2.Flooding Routing Protocol is an indispensable and fundamental network control mechanism for achieving some tasks,such transferring data with high reliability and networks whose topology is indefinite.Chapter 5 focuses on DD protocol.This chapter will not only discuss the key concepts of DD protocol also analysis details of implementation.And this is fully ready for Chapter 6.Chapter 6 discusses the implementation of DD protocol in NS2,comparative analysis of the Flooding routing protocol and DD routing protocol at different scale of the failure of network nodes,and points out that DD protocol is an energy efficient routing protocol.Chapter 7,a new energy efficiency routing algorithm based on DD protocol is presented for satisfying wireless sensor networks.New algorithm greatly reduces the energy consumption and enlarges survival time of WSN.Chapter 8 is part of Summary and perspective.In this chapter recommend the focus of next research work.The following work is accomplished in this thesis:1) By reading many documents,analysis characteristics of the existing classical wireless sensor network protocols;2)In-depth study on the DD protocol,implements Flooding Routing Protocol and DD routing protocol in NS2;3) Aimed at the DD Protocol's energy consumption on flooding step,proposes a new energy efficient routing algorithm based on geographical location.By increase the direction of detection message and balance the energy consumption in the process of routing,this algorithm reduces energy consumption steadily and extends Survival time of network.This thesis is supported by Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program Foundation of Ministry of Education of China Under Grant(No.200804971030) and Hubei Province Natural Science Foundation Project(No.2008CDB347).
