Wireless Sensor Network(WSN), which is made by the convergence of sensor , nested computation, networks and wireless communication technologies, is a novel technology about acquiring and processing information. It is a late-model wireless network of infrastructure less network and can be used for testing, sensing, collecting and processing information of monitored objects. WSN is a new research area of computer science and technology and has a wide application future. Both academia and industries are very interested in it.Because WSN is confronted with many difficulties, such as limited communication ability, limited resources and mobile network etc, so designing reasonable routing protocol is very important. The author analyzed and compared some routing protocols that proposed by oversea researcher, taking for directed diffusion as an appropriate method.Directed diffusion is data-centric in that all communication is for named data. All nodes in a directed diffusion -based network are application-aware. This enables diffusion to achieve energy savings by selecting empirically good paths and by caching and processing data in-network. The paper firstly analysis propagation mode of directed diffusion, then compare directed diffusion to multicast and flooding, the results which simulated on the NS2 show that Directed diffusion is an ideal routing mode for WSN.In the last, we have a summary on the thesis, and look into the prospect of future research work.
