Studies On The Practical Problems And Strategies Of Benchmarking In Chinese University Library

Benchmarking originated in the 90's last century in the business has made significant success, and been generally recognized.The advanced management methods has gradually been put to use into the various sectors,including the library of universities.Benchmarking of the University Library is to enhance the performance of library services,distinguishing the best services and management practices to introduct into systemic methods and process.In the University Libraries of China,the benchmarking is in its infancy.According to interviews and findings of the survey,the University Library of China exists such problems which have lack of theoretical knowledge of benchmarking,narrow object,the immature organizational culture, shortages of professionals and so on.At present these issues from the University Library did not establish a true learning organization,not really understand the meaning of benchmarking,not intigrate other management concepts and theory of benchmarking into a system.It is very difficult to depend only on the library's own human resources and funds to transform in the situation which has no external pressure,lack of competition and business appraisal standards.For such a situation,I propose the environmental improvement strategy inside and outside.It suggests that includs constructing or authorization the necessary social organization which take charge in benchmarking research,popularization and evaluation work,establishing of the national share of the University Library Benchmarking information exchange platform,building a system of security which creates the soft environment of University Library Management Benchmarking,changing ideas,fostering a sense of crisis and competition,creating a learning-oriented organizations,utilizing systemly benchmarking and quality management,knowledge management,talent management strategies.
