The latest definition modified by ICOM made Education the first function of museum.The theme of International museum day of 2008 was "Museums:agents as social change and development".Both of them emphasized the educational role of museums in 21st century and also pointed the trend of museums.The traditional ways of museum education included exhibitions and manual explanations which can't satisfied the diversified museum visitors.Western countries have developed series of educational programs based on their diversified resources in order to enable visitors get the "right" information or experience.But in the mainland of China,most museums haven't realized the importance of educational programs.The article tries to illustrate the importance of educational programs in museum in five chapters:Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction of present situation of educational programs in museum throughout the world.Chapter 2 tries to give a definition of educational programs and implement ideas.Chapter 3 describes the main types of educational programs in museums.Chapter 4 summarizes the steps to carry out educational programs.Chapter 5 points out the problems existing in the Chinese museums and tries to make some proposals as the conclusion of the article.
