World Order And System Selection

The magazine Observer,published from 1946 to 1948,was a liberal publication of politic views,which was influential in China after the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan.Under the background of the confrontation between America and Soviet Union after the World WarⅡ,this magazine conducted a heated discussion on the world order,American and Soviet system and culture.According to their comments on the world order,Chinese liberalists condemned American and Soviet hegemony and criticized their international strategies and diplomatic maneuvers.Especially,due to the nationalistic emotions and motives,Chinese liberalists strongly disapproved American and Soviet policies to China.This magazine also extended their observation of world order to the observation of American and Soviet political and economic systems which had great influence on the former.It affirmed American political democracy,cultural principles,meanwhile appreciated the planned-economy structure and economic democracy in Soviet Union,both helped those two countries grow stronger than other countries.However,Observer did not only pass judgments on America and Soviet Union, but to a great extention,it showed concern with the design of the national system after the War of Resistance Against Japan,in which the reciprocity between nationalism and liberalism was manifested fully.The intellectuals of Observer were angry with the hegemonic order established by America and Soviet Union.But the anger did not shake their basic liberalistic belief,and they would always insist in the direction of democracy and liberty in the design of national political system.Meanwhile, Observer's views on American and Soviet system and culture influenced the amendment and adjustment of the intellectuals' principle of liberalism.The gap between the rich and the poor in the American society and economic equality in Soviet Union after the World WarⅡ,made chinese liberalists yearn for economic democracy. Taking the planned-economy system behind economic equality in Soviet Union as an example,the intellectuals designed the national economic system.In summation,the intellectuals of Observer had more profound understanding on differentiating political democracy and economic democracy than the intellectuals before.The coexistence of both became the ideal democracy in the mind of those liberalists,and the establishment of Democratic Socialism became their distinct pursuit of system.
