In the dissertation, based on the looking-up references, details analyzing and history analyzing, the author will study and analyze the sport report in the Soviet Union in the People’s Daily from1949to1991from the perspective of national image.Based on the developmental history of Sino-soviet diplomacy after1949, the dissertation combining the specific reports on the sports reports in the Soviet Union in People’s Daily will be divided into three periods, including the praising period of the sports reports in the Soviet Union in People’s Daily(1949.10-1963.09), the criticizing period (1963.10-1980.11) of it and objective period of it (1980.12-1991.12).And the study showed that in the praising period of the sports reports in the Soviet Union in People’s Daily, it would tell lots of achievement the Soviet Union gained in a positive way. The sports reports in this period had lost its original attribute and presented a high anaclisis to politics and become a advertising tool for criticizing the hegemonism and revisionism. As a whole, the description of the powerful Soviet Union in the praising period has turned to the extreme opposite side of the national hegemonism in the criticizing period. In the objective period of the sports reports in the Soviet Union in People’s Daily, the number of reports has gradually increased, At the same time, the reports’standpoint and rhetorical devices tended to be neutral and objective. The reports in this period mostly limited in the sports games themselves only and focused on the lay of the sports games, which just made the sports reports in this period desalt the political complexion and begin to expect and restore the general rules and features of the news transmission of sports.According to the result of the study, the sports reports in the Soviet Union in People’s Daily will be affected by the policies in politics, economy, diplomacy and culture etc. in the nation directly. Especially in the praising and criticizing periods, the sports reports in the Soviet Union was tightly connected with the diplomacy between the two countries. With the coming of the reform and opening-up policy, the effect became less and less but did not disappeared. In the meanwhile, the functions will change as the reports in the development of different stages goes.
