As the development of semiconductor manufacture technology and circuit design technology, the image quality of CMOS image sensor is approaching that of CCD and more and more research have been done on it in the world. Because of the manufacture technology of CMOS image sensor is compactable with standard CMOS technology, the trends in CMOS image sensor design is integrating image sensing circuit and digital image processing circuit in the same single chip which is called SOC system. Testing and estimation play an important role in the CMOS image sensor design process.A high performance testing and estimation system for CMOS image sensor is design and implement in this paper. It can test the function, estimate the performance and characters of CMOS image sensor, verify the digital image process algorithms. It includes a FPGA chip which controls the whole system and verifies the RTL model algorithms, a USB transfermation subsystem which transfers video data and control message, a SDRAM memory which caches the video data and an application running on the PC which provids a GUI to the user and verifies the floating point and fixed point model of the algorithms. The application has Tcl support, which can automate lots of task in testing.After lots of testing and verification, this system works correctly, and it have played am important role in the design of VGA size color CMOS image sensor.
