Automatic Meter Reading is a new technology which applies data acquisition, transmission and processing to water ,power ,and gas supply and management system.In tranditional AMR system,GSM or GPRS system was used to transmiting data processing center and communication center.Generally,There are equipped with wires between meter and communication center. Nowadays, the embedded hardware platform with ARM processor as main CPU has almost becomes the hardware criterion for the information industry. Therefore, embedded system composed of ARM processor-based hardware platform. Radio Frequency is low costing,high reliable,and widely used in many fields.This thesis is to study and realize the development of automatic meter reading system based on ARM and Radio Frequency system.This thesis is to study the following five technologies: Firstly, the background and signification of AMR is introduced. Secondly, this thesis introduces some familiar AMR systems home and abroad,and analyzes their characteristics. Thirdly, based on the requirement of the project research,this thesis introduces the related technologies,such as embedded system, embedded operating system ,ARM and so on. Next, the building of the hardware platform is based on ARM. The hardware platform uses ARM920T-cored S3C2440A from Samsung Corporation as a microprocessor, and completes the design of peripheral devices according to the system's requirement, including the designs of 64M NAND Flash,64MSDRAM,SD card, communication circuit between USB and serial port and Radio Frequency system. At last but not at least, Windows CE operation system is chosen for the embedded operation system. This thesis introduces the development of Boot Loader during the platform transplant, the modification of OAL layer, the driver development with serial ports, LCD driver, and the customization procedure of the core. During the development of application procedures, the SDK deriving procedure from PB and the debugging of EVC application process is introduced. At the end of this thesis, it depicts the difficulties in this AMR system and the future development of AMR technology in future.
