With the development of modern production, the application of standard parts in the mechanical design and manufacture becomes more and more extensive. Thirty to seventy percent of mechanical products are standard parts or common parts ,which have the same shape but different dimension. In the process of products design and development, the standardization, series and generalization of parts have been an effective approach to improve the quality of products design and shorten products development circle. Using standard parts largely, i.e. creating standard parts library can bring advantages for the design of products. But there is no standard parts library in current CAD system and three dimensional design will become the mainstream of mechanical design. The only feasible method is to carry through second development and establish 3D standard parts library upon the general CAD platform.Under this background, the applied status of CAD technology, the developmental status of second development technology related to CAD home and abroad, and the methods of second development related to CAD were analysed, also the aspects of parameterized designing technology, second development technology related to UG, the ideas and methods for establishing 3D parameterized standard parts library based on UG, were comprehensively researched. According to the structural characteristic of the standard parts, the template part models of standard parts were created by the way of parameterized modeling, and the design of both user interface and application programming were designed. The whole scheme of 3D parameterized standard parts library based on UG was formed. Concretely speaking, a set of 3D parameterized standard parts library was established on UG NX 3.0 platform by using second development tools related to UG, for example Visual C++ 6.0, UG/ PartFamilies, UG/ OpenMenuScript, UG/Open UIStyler, UG/Open API and so on. The 3D parameterized standard parts library created, includes many kinds of standard parts, 226 parts in all.The 3D standard parts library was developted by internal mode, so it can be automatically loaded into UG running space, and perfectly integrated with UG system.The 3D parameterized standard parts library has a friendly and interface and an easy and convenient operation, also can create standard parts models quickly at the appointed place. It can improve the quality of products design and shorten products development circle. It can also liberate designers from complicated modeling and improve the productivity.
