VHF radar has obvious superiority in anti-stealth and resisting anti-radiation missile. However, VHF radar has its own disadvantages, such as wide beam width, low precision and low distinguishability. As a new type of radar using metric wavelength with array antennae, Synthetic Impulse and Aperture Radar (SIAR) can improve those disadvantages of general VHF radar better. Combining with a research project, the problem of angle measurement in SIAR is studied in this thesis.Firstly, the basic principle and special transmitting signal of SIAR is introduced. Characteristics of SIAR are described simply. And then the principle of the pulse synthesis which is the outstanding feature of SIAR is described in detail, and simulations under different parameters are given out. Based on the achievements that have been acknowledged, this paper expounds some algorithms of angle measurement and especially introduces the maximum likelihood algorithm. For angle measurement of radar, temporal-spatial sequential Maximum Likelihood (ML) algorithm for DOA estimation is researched. Then the implementation of the ML algorithm in SIAR is studied, and the simulations are given out. Lastly, on the basis of these theory research and combining with the research project, the frame of hardware design is introduced for the system of angle measurement and the software result of the algorithm using ADSP-TS201S is given out.
