This paper introduced the definition and structure of the Integrated Safety Monitoring Systems in Coal Mining industry, with its design, implementation and application. The purpose of the study was to integrate the existing independent safety monitoring systems into a centralized information transmission system by using the Industrial Ring-type Ethernet. Using GIS technology to integrate the MIS of coal mining, an efficient method was provided for enterprise-class resources sharing and comprehensive application of information management in a coal mine.The paper analyzed the general issues in building a coal mine integrated information system. It discussed the development of computer, network, communications and the future microelectronics technology and suggested that multiple of independent coal mine monitoring systems would be inevitably replaced by a reliable, powerful integrated monitoring system, such that achieved information sharing and integration.There were many disadvantages in traditional safety information transmission system, which held back the development of coal mine information systems. The paper is the first to propose the application of Coal Mine Integrated Safety Monitoring System based on Industrial Ring-type Ethernet. Then, it presented the platform's architecture, which is based on industrial Gigabit Ring-type Ethernet and GIS. The paper also described the application of such a system applied to a local coal mine in Taiyuan DongShan Coal Mine. The original three-tier structure of the network was improved by integrating Industrial Ring-type Ethernet with Industrial Fieldbuswhich replaced the traditional transmission systems using copper wire or analog optical fiber and its subsystems. So that, the Integrated Safety Monitoring System in Taiyuan DongShan Coal Mine was able to transmit and manage safety signals, equipment's working status and control signals all together in a unified information platform.Through the system feasibility analysis, comprehensive performance testing and proof by experiments, it was suggested that the transmission of security monitoring information on the industrial Gigabit Ring-Type Ethernet was efficient and reliable. Also, the system is much better than traditional copper or fiber network of analogue transmission system in other transmission capacity, capital and operating costsThe paper discussed the issue of building such integrated safety monitoring platform in coal mine. It suggested a platform designed by using the combined C/S (client/server) and B/S (browser/server) architecture. The system was designed by using GIS. The paper analyzed the system structure, composition and the functions. Finally, it discussed the implementation and application of two subsystems including the digital video surveillance system and emergency response system for personnel positioning and rescuing.The research result shows that the information isolation problem is solved effectively by information sharing, functionality complementing and integrated application in the system. It can monitor production procedure and ensure production safety. Mine and office automation network connect seamlessly in the system It concludes that the system provided a much higher quality, advanced and integrated information monitoring platform.
